The actor was born on July 16, 1967 as John William Ferrell in Irvine, California, United States of America. He was born as the son of parents Betty Kay and Roy Lee Ferrel Jr. His mother was a teacher while his father played saxophone and keyboards for the Righteous Brothers. Additionally, his parents moved to California in 1964 after spending most of their lives in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina.
However, his parents divorced when he was eight years old. Additionally, he has a mixed ethnicity of English, German, and Irish. He had suffered from pyloric stenosis when still an infant and underwent a pyloromyotomy to correct the condition. He grew up with his younger brother named Patrick.
