Will Ferrell

Redhead, with curls. With a swollen face, and slightly bulging eyes. With his awkward gait and lanky gait, he did not seem destined for acting fame. But thanks to his comedic flair, it seems he’s getting it, especially in his home country of the United States .

John William Ferrell was born in Irvin, California, in 1967. His father was a keyboardist and saxophonist for The Righteous Brothers, where perhaps his artistic streak came from. With a degree in sports information from the University of Southern California (USC) –it is clear that in the US there are titles for all tastes–, already in his student years he had shown interest in the world of acting. Legend has it that he gave announcements over the institute’s public address system, imitating his voice, a curious acting training ground. He was interested above all in comedy, and for this reason he joined the group The Groundlings in Los Angeles, known in the world for their love of improvising their comedy numbers. From there he would jump in 1995 to the television program that it seems that every self-respecting American comedian has to go through: Saturday Night Live. One of his most celebrated imitations would be that of President George W. Bush, joking with the president’s grammatical errors. And if it seems to someone that Ferrell has a cartoon face, we can point out that he may have rubbed off on some ‘cartoon’ after voicing a father without arms or legs inThe Oblongs ; or the nice monkey from Curious George (2006).

In 2000, he married Viveca Paulin, with whom he has two children. He had met her five years earlier, in acting classes.

Apart from participating in some telefilms and series, Will Ferrell gave his first cinematographic steps with small roles, always in comedy: Movida en el Roxbury (1998); Austin Powers (1997) and Austin Powers. The spy who hugged me (1999), with his role as Mustafa; Adventures in the White House (1999); Everybody Wanted Her Dead (2000) and The Terror of the Girls (2000). In 2001 Kevin Smith required his services for Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back and Ben Stiller for his look at the fashion world in Zoolander .. They were small steps, but of course Ferrell were not in the spotlight of the international public.

Ferrell’s career really skyrocketed when he became a big elf raised by Santa Claus in Elf (2003). Actually it turned out that he was a human whose father had abandoned him, and after a courageous decision, the kind young man went to New York in search of him, in the middle of Christmas. In the film, Ferrell knew how to combine jokes with the ingenuity that his character was supposed to be, unaware of the malice that dominates the world.

His next job, The Reporter (2004), was not particularly outstanding, but that same year his prestige rose several wholes, as Woody Allen himself asked him for a role as Melinda and Melinda in which he was the director’s ‘alter ego’, in a reflection on the intimate connection between drama and comedy.

Will Ferrell did not fall for making small cameos for his friends, like in Starsky and Hutch (2004), or From Wedding to Wedding (2005). And even he accepted minor roles, such as the crazy Nazi in The Producers (2005). Another opportunity to do comedy with more classic overtones was given to him by Bewitched (2005), a television adaptation that allowed him to work side by side with the ‘sorceress’ Nicole Kidman . And finally, in 2006, a step forward ( Stranger than fiction , tragicomedy of many carats, reminiscent of the efforts of Jim Carreyto get rid of silly comedies) and another one to go back (the crude automobile comedy Pasado de vueltas , which only has one memorable gag, that of the moose).

It is seen that Ferrell continues to like the sports world, which gave him a degree. Aside from the cars from Overturned , he prepares Blades of Glory , about two rival ice skaters, and Semi-Pro , set in the world of basketball.
