Why I contested against party candidate - Wase

The former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Ahmed Wase, has congratulated Tajudeen Abbas on his election as the Speaker of the House. He expressed his gratitude to the members who voted for him, as well as those who didn’t and others who wanted him but chose to vote for someone else.

In the statement, Wase expressed his sincere congratulations to Tajudeen Abbas and Benjamin Okezie Kalu on their election as Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the 10th House of Representatives. Despite their political differences, he acknowledged that they were all partners in the mission to strengthen parliamentary democracy.

Wase emphasized that his contest in the speakership election was primarily about advocating for fairness and equity in his party’s zoning process rather than solely aiming for victory. He recognized the natural contentions that arise during political contests but emphasized the need for unity to address more significant issues, such as the stability of the Parliament and the advancement of legislative governance.

He called upon his supporters, well-wishers, and fellow contestants to extend their cooperation to Speaker Tajudeen Abbas and Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu, to ensure a stable and united 10th House of Representatives.

Wase affirmed his dedication to actively participate in all legislative matters of the 10th Assembly and assured his commitment to representing not only his constituency in Plateau State but all Nigerians.

He expressed his indebtedness to his constituents, who have consistently shown faith and support by reelecting him for the 5th term. Wase also acknowledged the efforts of his campaign team and supporters.

Wase expressed his appreciation to all his honorable colleagues, irrespective of their voting choices. He thanked those who voted for him, those who didn’t, and even those who voted for his opponent despite their personal inclination. Wase assured them that he would embody the words of Abraham Lincoln by showing charity towards all and malice towards none.

In conclusion, Wase conveyed his message in a heartfelt manner, acknowledging the human aspects of politics and expressing his gratitude and commitment to his constituents, colleagues, and the democratic process.
