Chukwudi Dumee Onuamadike, popularly known as Evans, is a Nigerian alleged kidnapper. Onuamadike is a native of Nnewi, Anambra State.
The notorious kidnapper was arrested by the Joint Special Forces led by the Intelligence Response Team of the Inspector-General of Police, the Lagos State Police Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit and Technical and Intelligent Unit of the Force under the supervision of the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, on June 10 and he has been remanded with his accomplices Uche Amadi, Ogechi Uchechukwu, Okwuchukwu Nwachukwu, Chilaka Ifeanyi and Victor Aduba
He pleaded not guilty to a two-count charge of kidnapping and conspiracy after he was arraigned in court on June 13 2017.
Evans is sometimes referred to as “The Billionaire Kidnapper” because the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) believe he is one of the richest criminals in the kidnapping business in Nigeria. In some of his operations, he made amounts of up to 1 million dollars.
He is undergoing trial on 52 charges of multiple murders, armed robberies, kidnappings, unlawful possession of firearms, unlawful possession of ammunition, conspiracy, among other charges. Specifically, he is being charged with unlawful capture of Uche Okereafor in the Festac area of Lagos State on 21 November 2017 and demand a ransom of $2million.
According to the Director of Public Prosecutions, Ms Titilayo Shitta-Bey, Onuamadike contravened sections 409 and 269 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State 2011.
However, the Police operatives have been investigating his case from 2017 up till August 3rd 2021 that the notorious kidnapper Evans has said in court he is not a kidnapper, but a businessman who deals in ornaments and Horlicks.
The suspects disputed all kidnapping allegations levelled against him by the Lagos State Government on Tuesday, led in evidence by his defence counsel, Victor Okpara, saying he was a legitimate businessman.
