Councillor Shahzad Abba Malik, the newly elected Mayor of Crawley, got into a fight with a taxi driver in the middle of the road after the driver cut him off.
The Mayor, a dad of three, and the taxi driver fought at the Tushmore Roundabout in Crawley Town centre.
According to the Police, the taxi driver was knocked out by the mayor and suffered injuries to his arms and head.
The Mayor, who was elected in June, has not been suspended and the Labour lead Council is yet to comment on the video.
Who is the new Mayor of Crawley
The new Mayor of Crawley is Councillor Shahzad Abbas Malik.
Councillor Malik was elected Mayor at the Annual Crawley Borough Council meeting on Friday 28 May. He has been Deputy Mayor since May 2019.
Councillor Malik was first elected to represent Langley Green ward in 2018 and was re-elected in Langley Green and Tushmore ward in 2019. He was born in Chakwal, Pakistan and attended Crawley College.
He works as a taxi driver in Crawley.
Councillor Malik is married with three children.
The Mayor’s charity for 2021/22 is The British Red Cross.
