Boban Marjanovic started his basketball career as a teenager playing with the youth teams of Boljevac Rtanj club. at the age of 14, he started playing for Serbian professional team Hemofarm. At 14, he was already 2.09 m (6 ft 10.5 in) tall, which was too tall for a boy of his age. In 2010, he signed a three-year contract with Russian club CSKA Moscow.

On July 17, 2015, Marjanovic signed a one-year contract with the San Antonio Spurs worth $1.2 million. He became a restricted free agent on July 7, 2016.
