Students generally are faced with the problem of choice; this happens right from their secondary schools— the problem of choice of courses, which is suitable WAEC, NECO and NABTEB. Also, which is suitable to use to quickly gain admission into their preferred institution of learning.
However, for the sake of learning, we are going to analyse this confusing topic so you don’t repeat similar mistakes. Likewise, helping you to make a relevant choice to gain fast admission
Which is Suitable WAEC NECO or NABTEB for Admission
WAEC:
The West African Examination Council(WAEC) has always been a preferred choice among students and teachers; this, however, is in the relevancy with which the council has always been. The exam was created for West African students in Nigerian, Gambia, Liberia and Sierra Leone.

However, students must take note that WAEC is a compulsory exam for secondary school leavers. This because it is most Universities first requirement.
NECO:
The National Examination Council(NECO) was created by the former Head of State Abdulsalam Abubakar; the examination is taken only by Nigerian students. Mostly, the council’s marking guide is not strict compare to WAEC. Therefore, candidates enjoy the privilege of a second chance for admission application.
NECO was created for them to provide the following reasons:
- Senior Secondary Certificate Examinations (SSCE) for both internal and external candidates; Internal candidates take the exam in June/July, and external candidates take it in November/December).
- Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) – offered at the end of nine years of basic education; that is, at the end of Junior Secondary School (JSS 3)
- National Common Entrance Examination (NCEE) – conducted at the end of Primary School; that is, after six years of primary education.
NABTEB:
The National Business and Technical Examinations Board(NABTEB) is an examination created to serves “a Globally Recognized Assessment and Certification Body Preparing Candidates for the World of Work and Academic/Professional Excellence.” Unlike WAEC, NECO and GCE, NABTEB not only conducts general subject examination but offers a business and technical knowledge.
Suitable one for Admission:
However, for the sake of our earlier discussion on which is suitable for admission, candidates must consider the examinations as alternatives; most Nigerian universities accept all while others don’t. For example, not all federal universities accept NABTEB, therefore, candidates should sit for atleast two( like WAEC and NECO).
Furthermore, the purpose of sitting for this exams is to gain admission into preferred institutions in Nigeria. So you should sit for this exams with the hope of them serving as alternatives to secure you admission.
