5 Ways to Enjoy Mango This Season
Mango is a huge source of vitamin A,C and K. Here are 5 ways to enjoy mango without eating them the conventional way.
No doubt, it’s been raining mangoes this season and it’s not about to stop any time soon. This post highlights five different ways to enjoy mango this season.
Rainy seasons come with all kinds of food and fruit and this year is no different. Experts claim that mangoes usually come around between May and September, sometimes in April too. This year has had us eating mangoes the conventional way and by now, a lot of people probably walk past fresh and enticing mangoes at the market, unlike the “good old days”.
However, it’s too late to get tired because these pretty little fruits will be around for much longer and what will we do with them? Find ways to enjoy them of course!
Mangoes are one of the easiest ways to get Vitamin A, C, K, Magnesium, Folate, Choline, and many other necessary vitamins into your body system.
A medium size mango contains 202 calories, 2 grams of protein, 50 grams of carbohydrates, and 5 grams of fiber. These nutrients and vitamins are needed in our bodies so we should take them in. Not to worry there are different ways to take them in without having to eat them “the normal way” and increase our teeth sensitivity.
Here are 5 ways to eat a mango this season.
1. Mango Smoothie
Of course, Mango Smoothie has to top the list! You literally don’t have to eat your mangoes, you can drink them too. The good thing about mango smoothies like all others is that you have a blend of other fruits in it too. You can enjoy your best fruits while still having a taste of mango. Here’s how to make a home-made mango smoothie:
You’ll need:
- Mangoes (Preferably iced and diced)
- Orange juice (It’s literally just the juice squeezed out from oranges)
- Ice cubes
- Banana
- Greek Yoghurt
Making a smoothie is simple. Simply measure the above-listed ingredients, put them in a blender, allow them to blend well, and serve chilled.
2. Mango Salad
This is probably the rarest fruit salad you’ll come across. Once again, it’s another way to get nutrients from other fruits and veggies that mangoes don’t have. For this unique fruit salad, you’ll need:
- Very fresh mangoes (the ones that can be sliced)
- Cherry tomatoes
- Avocado
- Cucumber
- Red onion
- Olive oil
- Lime
- Oregano (Thyme can be used to substitute this)
- Salt and pepper to taste
This looks very complicated but it’s very easy. Simply dice your mangoes, tomatoes, Avocado, cucumber, and onion. Add little olive oil and lime juice to a pan and add the fruits and vegetables you have diced, sprinkle your oregano/thyme, and add salt and pepper to taste. You can either munch alone or go barbecue-ish!
3. Mango Pancake
This is literally one of the simplest ways to add mango to your favorite dish (if pancakes are your favorite). Simply make your pancakes and add mango to them the way you’d prefer. You can either juice out your mangoes and use them as a syrup on your pancake or dice out little chunks from the fruit and put them in between your pancakes (and on top of it, in case you want a picture-worthy dish).
4. Mango Milkshake
Yes, this is different from a mango smoothie. This is one of the ways to enjoy mangoes before they go out of season. While mango smoothies give you a blend of mango and other fruits, mango milkshakes add a milky and creamier taste to your mangoes.
To make a mango milkshake, you don’t need much. Here’s all you need:
- Fresh mangoes (preferably iced and diced)
- Ice Cubes (Optional)
- Enough milk the way you love it.
- Sugar (Optional)
From the ingredients mentioned above, you’ll realize that the only compulsory ingredients for mango milkshake are mangoes and milk as the name implies, of course, you’ll have to shake them together in a blender.
To produce your milkshake, add all ingredients to taste in a blender and allow it to blend well. Serve with your favorite meal or drink alone as one of your sip-juices while at work or during leisure.
5. Mango Parfait
Parfait at last! There’s literally no fruit that cannot be used to make a parfait. Since they’re quite handy, they can be eaten anywhere.
A mango parfait is made up of diced mango/mango puree, greek yogurt, and Granola (if you want). Make a layer of greek yogurt and mango as many times as your cup allows it, and add granola and any other fruit you want.
