No doubt, Tottenham have been on a woeful run of form in Mourinho’s final few weeks in charge, winning just one of their last six games and suffering a 2-1 defeat to north London rivals Arsenal.
However, former Man United forward, Wayne Rooney who won the EFL Cup and the Europa League under Mourinho believed that Spurs should have delayed their decision.

‘I think it’s crazy doing it before a [Carabao] Cup final. It’s strange timing, anyway, before a cup final.
‘I’m sure they could have waited until after the cup final if that’s the direction they want to go in. ‘Jose’s a fantastic manager, one of the best managers the game has seen. ‘I am sure he will bounce back and a lot of top clubs out there looking to bring him in.
When asked how difficult it will be for the players to adjust following Mourinho’s departure, Rooney replied: ‘It depends on the players.
“I’ve been there myself. Some players will get encouragement from the decision, some players will be upset by the decision. It’s purely down to each player individually on their thoughts on what happened.”
