Warren Berlinger

A prolific character actor, distinguished by his bulk, he appeared in such films as “The Cannoball Fools,” “The Long Goodbye” and “Accidental Hero.” Warren Berlinger passed away on December 2, 2020, at the age of 83, at the Henry Mayor Newhall Hospital in Valencia, California. His daughter Elizabeth has been in charge of spreading the sad news.

Born on August 31, 1937, in Brooklyn (New York), into a Jewish family, owner of a glass shop, Warren Berlinger lavished himself on the Broadway theater. He triumphed above all with “Blue Denim,” a 1958 play about teenagers, for which he received the Theater World Award for Best Leading Actor. 

In performances of “A Roomful of Roses”, he fell in love with a co-star, Betty Lou Keim , whom he married in 1960, and to whom he would remain together until her death in 2010. They had four children. That work gave rise to the film Teenage Rebel , starring Ginger Rogers , where Keim and Warren Berlinger himself repeated their roles , making his film debut with this title.

During the 1960s, he starred in feature films such as Because They Are Young , The Craziest Ship in the Army , Billie  and Thunder Alley , until he achieved enormous popularity for starring in one of the regular segments of the television series Disneyland. The magical world of color , from 1965. In the 1980s and 1990s, he played his most remembered film roles, for example The Cannonball Fools , where  Warren Berlinger was Shakey Finch, a motocross champion who participated in an illegal race on public roads , forming a tandem with a millionaire. They dress up as a newly married couple. He was also secretary of the school inThe World According to Garp , journalist on The Long Goodbye , and judge on Accidental Hero .

He retired in 2016, just as he was celebrating his 70th anniversary in show business, after a chapter of Grace and Frankie. He was named honorary mayor and honorary sheriff of Chatsworth, the California town in which he resided.
