VG Siddhartha was an Indian businessman from a wealthy family of coffee growers in Karnataka, southern India. Many people recognized him as the founder of the biggest chain of cafes called Cafe Coffee Day. He had also been its president and managing director before his disappearance. Sadly, his body was found after being missing for three days in a river mouth in July 2019.

The entrepreneur made headlines in 2017 when the income tax department raided more than 20 outlets in Mumbai, Chennai and Karnataka. Moreover, he had won the titles of ‘Entrepreneur of the year’ by The Economic Times in 2002-2003. Also, Forbes India listed him as “NextGen Entrepreneur” in 2011. VG SIDDHARTHA: BIO, FAMILY, CAREER

The founder of Cafe Coffee Day was born in 1959 as Veerappa Gangaiah Siddhartha Hegde in Chikmagalur, Karnataka. His father Gangaiah Hegde unfortunately owned many coffee estates, he passed away in 2019 after being in a coma for many years. While his mother Vaasanthi G Hegde identifies as a housewife. He had Indian nationality and belonged to the Vokkaliga caste of southern India

Regarding his education, he had attended a local school in Chikmagalur. After that, he pursued undergraduate studies at St. Aloysius College and then a master’s degree in economics from Mangalore University in Karnataka. After graduating, he joined his family’s coffee business. Before that, he became a management trainee at JM Financial Limited in Mumbai in portfolio management and securities trading on the Indian stock exchange department, at the age of 24.

He then started his company Sivan Securities after returning to Bangalore with the donated amount of IND 30,000. The company was later renamed Way2wealth Securities Ltd and its venture capital division into Global Technology Ventures (GTV). In 1993, he started his ABC coffee trading company and later became the first entrepreneur in Karnataka to open a cafe in 1996.

In 2018, his cafe called Café Coffee Day had over 1700 all over India and attracted about 50,000 visitors per week. The businessman also founded the company Global Technology Ventures Ltd. Additionally, he also planted banana trees on 3,000 acres and was also the owner of The Dark Forest Furniture Company in Chikmagalur.

VG SIDDHARTHA: PERSONAL LIFE AND WIFE

He was a married man and had married a woman named Malavika Krishna in 1991. She is the daughter of the former Chief Minister of Karnataka, SM Krishna. The couple had welcomed two sons together.

Death:

On July 29, 2019, he disappeared after asking his driver to leave over the bridge over the Nethravati River in Ullal, Mangalore. Further on, he instructed his driver to wait for him on the other side of the river, giving him the impression of strolling. His driver did as he was told, however, he went to pick him up when he didn’t return even after an hour. And the driver then reported to the police.

After a three-day search, on July 31, 2019, her body was discovered by three fishermen on Hoige Bazaar beach near the mouth of the Nethravati River. Hence, his death was listed as suicide by drowning, and later his body was cremated at his family’s Chethanahalli coffee estate in Chikkamagalur district.
