Italian filmmaker Valentina Pedicine died on November 20, 2020, at the premature age of 42, in a hospital in Rome, as a result of liver cancer. “With her, a piece of the future of Italian cinema disappears, because her few films, beautiful and courageous, have already left their mark. Sensitivity, strength and tenderness have characterized her images. Her cinema, like her, should not be forgotten”, explains the official statement from Filmitalia, an organization dedicated to promoting Italian cinema.

Born in the port city of Brindisi (Puglia), on April 6, 1978, Valentina Pedicini  moved to the Italian capital to study at the University. In 2010 she graduated with honors in Directing from the Zelig International School of Documentary Film. While in the classrooms, she debuted with her first works,  Pater Noster, Mio Sovversivo Amore  and  My Marlboro City .

In 2013, his documentary  Dal Profondo  won the Solinas International Film Festival of Rome Award. In 2015 she filmed her first fiction short film,  Era Ieri, and in 2013 the feature film  Where Shadows Fall , an experimental drama that took place in a nursing home in Switzerland. In her documentary  Faith , she talks about a dry of warrior monks. He won the DocsBarcelona festival, in its 2020 edition “because being truly immersed in a closed and distant world requires strong and constant aesthetic choices on the part of a filmmaker,” the jury statement explained. “Through a camera incredibly close to the chosen subject, the director of FaithIt does so by successfully dealing with the brutal and oppressive world of an apocalyptic sect and its relationship with violence and patriarchy”.
