BIOGRAPHY OF AUBREY PLAZA
Aubrey Plaza born Aubrey Christina Plaza is a well-known actress and comedian. Plaza is notable for her role as April Ludgate on the NBC sitcom Parks and Recreation. Plaza had his first starring role as Darius Britt in the 2012 film Safety Not Guaranteed, after appearing in supporting roles in several feature films. Since 2017, Plaza has starred as Lenny Busker on the FX drama series Legion.
Aubrey Plaza began her career at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theater, performing improvisations and sketches. Plaza later appeared in films such as Mystery Team (2008), Funny People (2009), Scott Pilgrim vs the World (2010), Monsters University (2013), Life After Beth (2014), Wedding Dates (2016), Mike and Dave Need, Dirty Grandpa (2016) The Little Hours (2017) and Ingrid Goes West (2017), the latter two of which she also produced.
EDUCATION AUBREY PLAZA
In 2002, Aubrey Plaza graduated from Ursuline Academy, a Catholic school for girls, and from New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts in 2006. She served as student council president in high school and participated in productions with the Wilmington Drama League. In 2004, during her sophomore year of college, Plaza suffered a stroke which caused temporary paralysis and expressive aphasia. She has now fully recovered.
Aubrey Plaza had many internships and worked as an NBC page. Since 2004, she has performed improvisations and sketches at the Upright Citizens Brigade theatre. Plaza has also performed stand-up and appeared on Laugh Factory and The Improv. She appeared on the online series The Jeannie Tate Show and also starred on ESPN’s Mayne Street as Robin Gibney. Plaza appeared on the first episode of “Terrible Decisions with Ben Schwartz” on Funny or Die.
In 2009’s Funny People, Plaza played Seth Rogen’s love interest Daisy, directed by Judd Apatow. Plaza also starred in Scott Pilgrim vs the World and Derrick Comedy’s Mystery Team, which debuted at Sundance 2009. She appeared alongside Jason Bateman and Will Arnett in a CollegeHumor short. From 2009 to 2015, she played the character of April Ludgate in Parks and Recreation. For her performance as a deadpan employee, Plaza received universal praise throughout the series, being considered one of the show’s characters.
Plaza performed on March 12, 2010 at “A Night of 140 Tweets: A Celebrity Tweetathon for Haiti”, produced by Rob Huebel, Paul Scheer, Ben Stiller and Mike Rosenstein, at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theater in Los Angeles. In 2011, Plaza appeared on Portlandia. Also in 2011, she appeared as a guest judge during a roasting segment on The Next Food Network Star. Plaza appeared on episode 199 of the WTF podcast with Marc Maron.
She also had a recurring role as “The Princess” on the comedy sci-fi web series Troopers on CollegeHumor. She was featured in Father John Misty’s music video for the song ‘Hollywood Forever Cemetery Sings’ from the album Fear Fun in 2012 and in 2014 she was in Cassorla’s ‘Bona Fide’ video where she also did her saxophone debut.
Plaza got her first starring role in a major film in 2012, alongside Mark Duplass, in the comedy Safety Not Guaranteed. She plays Darius, a jaded trainee who responds to a curious ad “looking for a companion for an adventure through time.” Plaza’s performance in the film was critically acclaimed, and Gary Thompson of The Philadelphia Inquirer questioned whether this role was out of his usual “pretty slacker” range, but found his performance “compelling”.
At the 2014 Sundance Film Festival in January 2014, her film, Life After Beth, which was written and directed by her boyfriend Jeff Baena, premiered. On September 17, 2014, Lifetime Network announced that Plaza would voice Grumpy Cat in their upcoming original film, Grumpy Cat’s Worst Christmas Ever. Plaza starred in Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates alongside Zac Efron, Anna Kendrick and Adam DeVine. On July 8, 2016, the film was released.
Her role as the rebel Tatiana won her critical praise. In 2016, she was a guest star on HarmonQuest, as a gnome named “Hawaiian Coffee.” She portrayed Aaron Burr in the “Hamilton” episode of Drunk History in 2016. It was announced in 2017 that Plaza would star in the independent comedy An Evening With Beverly Luff Linn. She first starred as Cat Adams on season 11 of the CBS television show Criminal Minds. Plaza returned to the role in Season 12. Plaza has been starring in the FX series Legion since 2017.
