Unknown gunmen have kidnapped a lecturer with the University of Jos, Plateau state, Dr. Dan Ella of the Department of Theatre Arts on Wednesday

It was also gathered that the gunmen attacked his residence located at Haske quarters in Lamingo community, Jos North Local Government Area of the state.

While speaking with newsmen, a member of the community, who gave his name as Philip Gyang said that the gunmen who arrived in the community around 3 am on Wednesday headed straight to the apartment of the lecturer and whisked him away after breaking their door while shooting to prevent his rescue from residents who were already terrified.

“What happened last night in Haske quarters was terrible. It was the sounds of gunshots that woke us up around 3 am. But we could not come out when it became clear that Haske quarters was under attack by gunmen.”

Confirming the attack, the Chairman of the University of Jos branch of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Dr. Lazarus Maigoro said something needs to be done to curb kidnapping.

“Something has to be done about this kidnapping of innocent people because it’s really sad and should not be allowed to continue.”

Meanwhile, in another news, a former Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof Maurice Iwu, has said the indigenes of Imo State are also to be blamed for the insecurity in the state.

You will recall that the Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma has blamed the opposition politicians and disgruntled personalities for increasing insecurity across the Imo state and the country.

No doubt, Imo has in recent times witnessed attacks by gunmen on police formations. Also, a correctional center was attacked leading to the release of more than 1,000 inmates.
