The University of Abuja (UniAbuja) has expelled at least 46 students over various misconducts.

The school head of public relations, Habib Yakoob, announced the situation in a statement on Sunday.

He said the sanction followed the affected students’ breach of their sworn matriculation oath.

Yakoob said this came as the varsity’s senate, on May 27, considered the report and recommendations of its disciplinary committee and subsequently approved the expulsion, rustication, retrial, and exoneration of the affected

The spokesman said five students were rusticated for a semester while the cases of three others involved in sundry offenses would be retried. Yakoob stated that seven accused persons were exonerated, discharged, and acquitted.

He said: “The expelled students cut across several departments, while 15 of the students are in their 400 level, 20 in 300 level, eight in 200 level and three in 100 level.

In other news, the University of Ibadan has stated that its management is yet to fix any date for physical resumption of the students in the institution for the rest of the 2020/2021 academic session.

Olubunmi Faluyi, the varsity’s registrar broke the news in a statement on Sunday.

Faluyi said an ad hoc committee had been set up to propose a date and implement plans for the physical resumption of students.

“This is to inform the university community and the public, especially staff, students, parents, and guardians, that management has not fixed any date for the physical resumption of academic activities for the rest of 2020/2021 academic session,” the statement read.

“At its meeting on Monday, 17th May, 2021, Senate discussed all matters relating to the physical resumption of academic activities for the rest of the 2020/2021 academic session, and decided to set up an Ad-hoc Committee, to propose a date and implementation plan.

“The committee is expected to submit its report on Monday, 24th May 2021, for the consideration of management.”

The registrar enjoined the public to discard reports in some quarters that the varsity had already announced physical resumption.

“Given the above, management hereby dissociates itself from publications which have gone viral on the social media on the matter,” it added.
