Actor Ulises Dumont died on Saturday, November 29, 2008, at the age of 71, in a Buenos Aires clinic, where he had been admitted for two months, due to heart complications. Considered a true dean of acting in Argentina, he had more than eighty films behind him and was considered one of the greats of theatrical stages.

His peers called him an ‘enlightened talent’, ‘wonderful human being’ and ‘stage troll’. “He is in the hearts of all of us who loved him and who admire and applaud him,” said China Zorrilla . “He was a jovial, cheerful man, with a very particular comedy that, step by step, opened up in the profession, demonstrating his qualities,” said Héctor Alterio .

Born in Buenos Aires, on April 7, 1937, from a very young age he was very clear that he wanted to be an actor. At the age of 19, he joined a group of friends from the Núñez neighborhood of Buenos Aires to form a cast that carried out plays such as ‘Futuro imperfecto’, which marked his debut in 1958. “I don’t know what happened to me, but when I went up to one stage I felt a shock. I realized that the only thing that interested me in life was being an actor,” Dumont recalled. He decided to study acting at the National Conservatory, and although it was difficult for him to pass the entrance exam, in the end he was accepted.

He jumped to the big screen in 1964 with the tape Dos quijotes sobre ruedas . He shone especially in films by Adolfo Aristarain , under whose orders he shot Revenge Time , The Lion’s Share and Last Days of the Victim . He specialized in playing the average Argentine, usually in films that portrayed key moments in his country’s history in recent years. He had great success with Héctor Oliveira’s No habrá más penas ni olvido , which adapted a novel by Osvaldo Soriano ; there he played a crop duster with a plane. Yepeto also had a lot of impact, which before going to the cinema he had interpreted in the theater. “When I did that play, I hadn’t done anything in the theater for several years, and performing it made me very happy,” Dumont recalled.

In his last years of life, his health deteriorated, as he suffered from osteoarthritis in one leg. She participated in films that had a huge impact, such as The wind took what , The same love, the same rain and Smoking Room .
