A man that threatened to detonate a hand grenade inside the building of the Ukrainian government on Wednesday has been detained, Police Chief Igor Klimenko said.
“We have just completed a special operation to neutralize a citizen.
He will be a suspect, the prosecutor’s office will make a decision. The situation is not simple as he participated in the military operation [in Donbas], has been injured twice, suffered a head injury.
He committed this crime due to the fact that he was in such circumstances,” Klimenko told a press briefing, adding that the man had a combat hand grenade in his hands.
Video on the incident online, which could not immediately be verified, showed a man in jeans and a striped T-shirt in one of the lobbies of the building where government ministers meet.
He is holding something in his right hand and is shouting that he has a grenade.
The prime minister’s office is in the building, but it was not immediately clear if he or any other ministers were present at the time. The prime minister’s spokeswoman declined to comment.
? People telling man with grenade at Cabinet of Ministers Building in Ukraine to "calm down." Grenade man asks woman to leave – she goes in anyway. He appears to have a problem with bureaucratic paperwork. https://t.co/onyBO9hq8R
