UAE declares Aug 12 public holiday for Islamic New Year

Authorities of the United Arab Emirates( UAE) as announced Thursday 12th of August has its public holiday to mark the Islamic New Year (Hijri 1443).

As usual, all UAE employees will be granted the day off work, making it a long weekend for those who usually have Friday and Saturday off.

After that, they won’t get another public holiday until October. More so, the announcement was contained in a tweet by the Federal Authority for Government Human Resources on Wednesday.

“With the Hijri new year holiday being shifted to Thursday, residents can enjoy another long weekend this month.”

Hijri New Year is an Islamic holiday, If that’s the case then no alcoholic beverages will be served in any restaurant, bar or hotel for a period of 25 hours.

More so, the next public holiday will be in October when the UAE will mark the birthday of the Prophet Mohammed (PBUH). This means they should get a day off on Thursday, October 21, giving another three-day weekend for those who have Friday and Saturday off.
