Tyson Gay was born on August 9, 1982 in Lexington, Kentucky under the birth sign Leo. Gay is American by nationality and belongs to African American ethnicity. He is the only child of Gay Daisy and Greg Mitchell . His parents raised him with his older sister, Tiffany Gay , who was a keen sprinter.
Gay was born into the family of an athlete. His grandmother applied to Eastern Kentucky University and her mother completed in her youth, though she was pregnant with her first child in her teens. His mother encouraged him to run at every opportunity at school.
He is the first athlete in school history to win an NCAA 100m title. The hard-working and energetic Tyson became a three-time Class 3A 100m state champion while at Lafayette High School and his state record of 10.46 from 2001 still stands as of 2012.
Tyson Gay’s career
They say slow and steady wins the race, which Tyson Gay proves. Gay tended to be a slow start on track, working hard to improve and breaking Lafayette High School’s stadium record for the 200 meters. Under the tutelage of Ken Northington, a former state champion in the 100-yard dash, he began to work on his technique and rhythm. Then establishing a point of focus, he was a more composed athlete in the 100m as a senior, winning the state championship in the event and setting a new championship record of 10.60 s.
Gay shares the only child with Shoshana Boyd . She has not revealed her relationship with Boyd. The couple could have an affair before the birth of their child. The daughter used to live with her mother and her grandmother in a modest $15,000 house.
Additionally, he was jailed for 10 months after he tested positive for an unidentified banned substance.
