Two killed as herdsmen attack Amotekun corps, vigilantes in Oyo

Amotekun men were attacked in Oyo by herdsmen, Two were reportedly killed while others sustained injuries

Two persons were reported to have been killed in Aba Abugudu Market in the Atisbo Local Government Area of Oyo State during a terrible incident that happened which involved a fight between Fulani and Yoruba.

Two members of the Oyo State Security Network Agency known as Amotekun and a vigilante were also reportedly seriously injured following the fight that happened on Monday.

The cause of the fight is still sketchy as of the time of filing the report on Wednesday.

It was also reported, that Fulani man drew out his cutlass and attacked the Amotekun men who were trying to break the fight, inflicting varying degrees of injuries on them.

The names of the injured Amotekun men were given as Michael Oguntade and Yekini Tijani, while the vigilante who was also reportedly injured and the two Amotekun were said to have been rushed to hospital where they are still being treated.

The incident was confirmed to one of Punchnews correspondent on the telephone on Wednesday by the commandant of Amotekun Corps in Oyo State, Col. Olayanju (retd).

However, Amotekun commandant said, “Our men who were attacked are still in the hospital

“Fulani man and Yoruba were engaged in a fight at the Aba Agudugu Market. There were two Amotekun corps there and some vigilantes. Our men, (Amotekun) were trying to break the fight.

“One of the Fulani men was said to have attacked our men with a cutlass on the head, he attacked the other one on his hand. Those attacked were rushed to the hospital, but those fighting still continued with their fight.

Moreover, the police were said to have recovered two corpses but those who were killed were not identified.

Mr Olugbenga Fadeyi, The Police Public Officer in Oyo State confirmed that three persons were injured, including two Amotekun.

Furthermore, he said two Amotekun men and other person were injured. The DPO Tede led the patrol team swiftly to the scene and took the people that sustained injuries to the hospital for treatment.” Investigation intensified”.
