- He was born into a poor family living in the Crown Heights neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York City.
- His stage name, Troy Ave, comes from the name of a street near his birthplace – Troy Avenue in Brooklyn, New York City.
- Troy was named “2014 Freshmen Class” by XXL magazine that year.
- On his social media, Troy constantly tries to motivate his fans to wake up earlier and work harder on their dreams. He proclaims that if you are healthy you have the basis to achieve greatness and leave a legacy to your children.
- Fatherhood, family, friends and “homies” are precious according to him and his “road traffic regulations” and something that should never be left hanging and should be protected at all costs.
- In 2015, he started a beef with rapper JoeyBada$$, also from Brooklyn. Joey claimed that he was “the number 1 independent hip hop recording artist in the world”, while Troy pointed out that he was signed by a major record label, a subsidiary of Sony Music Entertainment . As part of their feud, Troy released a diss track titled Badass In February 2016, he insulted another rapper, Capital STEEZ, who was a good friend of Joey’s.
- The reason behind Troy’s insults to Capital STEEZ was that he committed suicide by jumping off a building in December 2012. Troy has always been religious, saying that God gave him life for a reason and it wasn’t up to Capital to forcibly take that gift away.
- Troy’s dissertation was heavily criticized by fans, and also well-known rappers like A$AP Ant, A$AP Twelvyy and Styles P. Joey responded to his track with their own freestyle on a TV show in March 2016. Despite the best efforts of other artists, their feud persisted in early 2019.

Surveillance footage showed Troy firing a gun multiple times, leading police to conclude he was the one who shot his bodyguard. He denied these claims, saying he fired in self-defense and that an unknown assailant killed Ronald. He was released on bail in July 2016 and brought to trial in April 2019.
- Troy said he enjoys fishing and wearing fur, but also has a passion and business acumen for buying, renovating and selling homes.
- On Christmas Day, December 25, 2016, Troy was shot dead by an unknown, hooded assailant while sitting in his bright red Maserati car in Brooklyn with his girlfriend. Luckily, he was only grazed on the head and hit once in the arm. The well-known rapper 50 Cent visited him in the hospital.
- In late 2016, a thief stole Troy’s laptop with videos of him in what appeared to be a s*x tape of him and an unknown girl and tried to blackmail him with lots of money.
