A devastating motor accident in Kaduna State and a boat mishap in Zamfara State have claimed the lives of over 75 people.

Kaduna Motor Accident

Over 35 Muslims on their way to celebrate Maulud in Samunaka, Kaduna State, died in a ghastly motor accident.
The J5 bus conveying them had a head-on collision with an articulated vehicle near Samunaka, in Lere Local Government Area.
“The accident had disorganized our plans to celebrate the Maulud,” Malam Abdullahi, one of the organizers, told journalists.
Thirty-five other victims were moved to a medical facility in nearby Plateau State for treatment. Another vehicle in their entourage clashed with a motorbike, leaving some occupants dead and others injured.
“I did the head count; there were about 70 people, including women and children. It was a sad development. We’ve taken the injured to JUTH in Jos for medical attention,” Malam Abdullahi said.

Zamfara Boat Mishap

In Zamfara State, a boat carrying 40 persons capsized in the Bakin Kasuwa River of Uban Dawaki community, resulting in the loss of over 40 lives.
The Zamfara State Government described the incident as a “monumental disaster.”
Governor Lawal directed the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) to embark on immediate rescue and recovery efforts.
“We received the tragic report of a boat accident in Bakin Kasuwa River in Uban Dawaki ward, Gummi Local Government Area, resulting in the loss of over 40 lives,” said Sulaiman Idris, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor.
“The governor has directed the State Emergency Management Agency, SEMA, to embark on immediate rescue and recovery of the dead bodies.
“The governor also directed the agency to take immediate action to assess the extent of the accident and provide urgent assistance,” the statement said.
It added that the governor directed the Commissioner for Humanitarian and Relief Matters to provide immediate relief materials to the victims and their families.
“Governor Lawal also prays for the souls of the departed victims, grieves with their families, and assures the state government’s commitment to preventing such occurrence in the future,” Idris added.
