1. Because of his bad behavior, he was sent to Queens, New York to live with his older half-brother. He then had to return to Toronto to live with his grandmother. However, his grandmother refused to take care of him and forced 15-year-old Lanez to live alone. He moved to a downtown location where he lived with three other men. He constantly had to fight with them as he was forced to fend for himself.
2. During his childhood he had to move constantly because his father worked as an ordained minister. He has lived in Montreal, Miami and Atlanta, among other places.
3. When he first started rapping he decided to choose Notorious as his nickname as a tribute to legendary rapper Notorious BIG who was his idol.
4. By the age of 16, he was fully focused on his rap career, performing at the local outdoor concerts.
5. He was nicknamed Lanez by his friend Hakeem because of his propensity to cause trouble on the streets, such as playing in the lanes without paying attention to traffic.
6. Never receiving vocal training, he began honing his rapping skills as a child.
7. The YouTube video of him freestyling over Lloyd Banks Beamer, Benz or Bentley was spotted by Sean Kingston, who got in touch with Lanez in February 2010.
