Lowery’s interpretation of Sir Gawain and the Green Knight depicts a drunken, immature Sir Gawain (Dev Patel) on his journey to find the tree bark-covered Green Knight, whom he beheaded a year earlier and who now owes him a back blow as part of their “game.”

Bill T. Jones could have been a poet if he hadn’t been one of the great modern dance choreographers of the previous fifty years. Dune is an epic that values size, of vision, of sound, of enormous import, above all else, proving that sometimes more is more. Denis Villeneuve’s picture, based on Frank Herbert’s iconic 1965 sci-fi novel (or, at least, the first half of it), is massive in every way, setting its story of interplanetary political intrigue, chosen-one prophecy, and coming-of-age adventure in concrete pavers.

Villeneuve favors massive scale, from the colossal ships that take characters to strange new worlds to the sand worms that hide beneath the surface of desolate Arrakis to Hans Zimmer’s deafening roars and gloomy silences. That goes for his story, which follows young Paul (Timothée Chalamet) as he progresses from heir to messiah when his father (Oscar Isaac) is granted sovereignty of sandy Arrakis and its valuable spice supplies. 7. Judas and the Black Messiah

Fred Hampton was assassinated with the knowledge and cooperation of law enforcement officials from both the federal and local levels. The fact that Judas and the Black Messiah made this widely known is reason enough to think about it. However, the fact that director Shaka King recounts Hampton’s narrative so well here elevates his picture to one of the most gripping crime dramas in recent memory, albeit with the FBI’s illegal COINTELPRO operation as the main criminal element.

Judas, told from the perspective of the man who spied on the Black Panthers and eventually facilitated the raid that killed Hampton, exudes a despondent quality that can still feel electrifying whenever, that is, whenever the Black Panther chairman enters the stage. Although Kaluuya deserved his Oscar, it’s LaKeith Stanfield’s neurotic performance as Bill O’Neal, the unfortunate guy pushed into being a snitch while still a child, that stays with you long after the credits have rolled.

In this bright London-set comedy, Emma Stone plays a punk rock designer in the vein of Vivienne Westwood, which is ostensibly a precursor to 101 Dalmatians. In actuality, you’ll have a lot more fun if you play it as a solo.

Estella, a rising fashionista, impresses one of the industry’s top designers, The Baroness (Emma Thompson), and lands a coveted position at her world-famous fashion firm. When Estella uncovers a dark truth from her own history, she transforms into the extravagant alter-ego Cruella and sets out to out-fashion The Baroness at every opportunity.

Cruella is a high-octane show with booming tunes and fantastic costumes, but it’s the sparring between the two Emmas that really gets the crowd going. Cruella de Vil is a legend in her own movies, regardless of whether or not she has a future as a puppy killer.

9. Psycho Goreman

The movie follows annoying little shit Mimi (Nita-Josee Hanna) who bullies her brother Luke (Owen Myre) mercilessly. After defeating him in a game of “crazy ball,” Luke’s punishment is to dig his own grave, but instead the pair discover an artifact which turns out to be the key to controlling a universal evil imprisoned on earth for trying to destroy the galaxy.

So of course Mimi names him Psycho Goreman and forces him to hang out with her family and friends despite his insistence that he will bathe in their blood the moment he is freed.
