In this article, we will be discussing the top 10 famous Nigerian celebrities that died in 2021; no doubt, these people have contributed a lot to the movie industry in the country but sadly they passed away during their acting careers in 2021.

The news of the death of some great personalities we respected so much in the entertainment industry in recent times is shocking and a lot heart-wrenching.

However, here is the list of the top 10 celebrities who died in 2021:

1. Sadiq Daba

Veteran, Sadiq Daba is an actor and a broadcaster who won an Africa movie academy award for best actor for a role as “Inspector Waziri” during his lifetime. As a broadcaster, he worked at the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA).

In 2017, he announced he was diagnosed with Leukemia and Prostate cancer. He has been on fundraising support by several Nigerians. However, Sadiq Daba died on Wednesday, March 3, 2021.

2. Sound Sultan

Hmm! The death of Sound Sultan, one of Nigerian’s finest rappers, singers and songwriters was a big blow to the country.  He was notable for his R&B, Hip-Hop, reggae and afrobeat.

He died at the age of 44 on the 11th of July. More so, Sound Sultan is well known for using his music to speak against poverty, corruption, bad governance and societal ills in Nigeria.

Having a strong relationship with Baba Dee, his sibling, Sound Sultan was an actor who produced and acted in the successful comedy movie “Head Gone” in 2014.

Before his death, it was reported he was somewhere in the United States of America receiving Chemotherapy and diagnosed with Angioimmunoblastic T-cell Lymphoma in the throat.

He died as a result of his illness.

3. Mrs. Folake Aremu (Orisabunmi)

Popular Yoruba actress, Mrs Folake Aremu popularly called Orisabunmi, died on January 5, 2021. Her death was a rude shock to the theatre industry

The veteran actress, who hailed from Olla in Kwara State, died at 60 in her residence in Ibadan, Oyo State.

Her death came four months after the demise of her ex-husband, Jimoh Aliu popularly called Aworo under whose tutelage she rose to prominence in the film industry.

4. Rachel Oniga

Rachel Oniga died of a heart-related issue, on the 30th of July 2021; it was said that she was instrumental to the movie industry in Nigeria. She is the fourth on our list of top Nigerian celebrities that died in 2021

Oniga began her acting career in 1993, shortly after her divorce. Her first movie titled “Onome” and her debut Yoruba movie, titled “Owo Blow” and has featured in notable films such as the popular TV series, “Superstory” directed by Wale Adenuga and the movie “Sango” Scripted by Wale Ogunyemi.

She died at the age of 64.

5. Sir Victor Uwaifo

The legendary singer, guitarist, musician and composer died on the 28th of August, 2021.

Sir Uwaifo, a professor of Arts at the University of Benin who was widely known for his genre in highlife, won the first gold disc in Africa (Joromi), which was released in 1965.

He also won seven other gold disks in Guitar boy, Akwete music and Arabada.

At first, the information had gone viral claiming that he died as a result of Covid-19 but the family debunked the news, stating he died as a result of Pneumonia. He passed away at the age of 80.

Veteran actor, Jim Lawson Maduike died on January 9, 2021.

The Imo-born thespian gave up the ghost after complaining of severe body pains. He joined the film industry in 2004 where he starred in several films.

7. Victor Olaotan

Having his sad story circulating, the famous actor is known in the Tinsel TV series. Victor Olaotan stroked us with shock as he was announced dead on the 26th of August.

According to reports, he has been ill for the past five years following a brain injury he sustained in a car accident in October 2016 at Apple junction, Festac, Lagos.

He was seen in movies such as “Three Wise Men” and “Unveil”. He died at the age of 69.

8. Ada Jesus

A popular Nigerian comedian Ada Jesu died of kidney disease. She suffered a Cardiac arrest in the night and was rushed to the intensive care unit of Zenith Medical & Kidney Centre where the doctors monitored her, she died the following morning at approximately 7:15 on 20th April 2021.

10. Babatunde Omidina (Baba Suwe)

Legendary Nigerian comic actor, Babatunde Omidina, fondly called Baba Suwe, is the last her on the list of top 10 famous Nigerian celebrities that died in 2021.

Baba Suwe died died on 22 November 2021. The news of his death was confirmed by his son Adesola Omidina, on his official Instagram page.

He began acting in 1971 but came into the limelight after he featured in a movie titled, Omolasan, a film produced by Obalende. He became more popular after he featured in Iru Esin, produced by Olaiya Igwe in 1997.

In 2011, the veteran thespian was arrested by the NDLEA with claims that he was in possession of substances suspected to be cocaine.

He was accused of drug trafficking by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, an allegation that was described as false and defamatory by the ruling of the Lagos high court of law.
