Tony was born in 1968 in Los Angeles, California in the United States of America. Which obviously makes him American by nationality. He was a child when his parents divorced. Subsequently, Berlin grew up with his mother and sister.

Berlin joined a local school in his hometown where he later graduated. In 2002, Tony studied reporting at the Poynter Institute, then went to Occidental College to study political science. He continued to follow her interest and started working as an intern. Tony began working as an intern at PBS News Hour while completing his master’s program at American University’s Graduate School of Communication.
