Tom Whedon
Joss Whedon, creator of “Buffy the Vampire Slayer”, always cites as the main secret of his success that his family has illustrious precedents as television writers. Now the “Marvel The Avengers” director mourns his father, Tom Whedon, who passed away at 83 on Wednesday, March 23. “We have had the gift of his warmth and his good humor. We will miss him very much. We love you, dad,” said Jed (“Dollhouse”), another of the sons who have shared his profession, like Zach (” Deadwood”).
Born on August 3, 1932 in New York, Thomas Avery Whedon was in turn the son of John Whedon, one of the pioneers of the small screen, as a screenwriter for titles such as The Dick Van Dyke Show . In turn, he got his start in the trade with the teen series Captain Kangaroo , broadcast in 1955. In 1973 he won an Emmy for his work on The Electric Company , another production for family audiences.
Over the years he wrote numerous episodes of series, such as The Golden Girls , which achieved enormous worldwide success. In it he also worked as a production executive. He came to appear as an actor briefly in an episode of It’s a Living , one of the sitcoms he wrote.
