Nigeria’s Chukwuebuka Enekwechi has finished 12th in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics Shotput final on Thursday morning, August 5.

Enekwechi’s throw of 19.74m was too poor to Grant him a spot in the medals table after he fouled in his opening throw,  threw 18.87m on his 2nd attempt, and threw 19.74m in his third attempt.

Enekwechi had claimed gold at the 2019 African Games in Rabat with a throw of 21.28 meters but the athlete could only manage a 19.74 meters distance placing him last overall.

The Shotput gold medal went to Ryan Crouser of the United States Joe Kovacs also of the United States won silver while the bronze went to Tom Walsh of New Zealand.

Enekwechi went viral a few days ago after he shared a video of himself washing the only jersey given to him by the Nigeria Sports ministry

He had posted the video himself on his TikTok handle with the caption, “When you made the Olympic Finals, but you only have one jersey”.

The now-deleted video sparked controversies about the welfare of Nigeria’s contingent to Japan.

Enekwechi would later go on to assure Nigerians that the development had not hampered his preparations ahead of the finals.
