Biography
Tiwatope Savage popularly known as Tiwa Savage was born on the 5th of February, 1980 in Isale Eko, Lagos State Nigeria. At the age of 11, Tiwa Savage with her family relocated to London where she had her secondary education. Later on, she joined her school’s orchestra band and played the trombone for them. During this period, her passion for music grew. Five years later (probably at the age of 16), she did backup vocals for English singers George Micheal, Mary J. Blige, Kelly Clarkson, Andrea Bocelli, Emma Bunton, Chaka Khan, Blu Cantrell, and Ms. Dynamite.
After High school, she went ahead to study business administration at the University of Kent. Upon graduation, she started working at The Royal Bank of Scotland.
In 2007, Tiwa Savage enrolled at Berklee College of Music and graduated with a degree in professional music.

Career
In 2006, before going to Berklee College, Tiwa Savage took part in the UK edition of the X Factor. Unfortunately, she was evicted and didn’t get to the finals. She admitted it was painful but she had to be strong at the moment because she believed people watching do not have to see you break down.
In 2009, Tiwa Savage signed a publishing deal with Sony/ATV Music Publishing. Through this deal, she wrote for Babyface, Kat Deluna, Fantasia, Monica and Mýa. And also wrote for several other star artists such as Akon, and Jaicko (featuring Snoop Dogg). She also performed background vocals on Whitney Houston’s album “I Look To You”.
In 2011, she co-hosted the second season of Nigerian Idol alongside IllRymz. In the same year, she made her movie debut with Joke Silva and Ireti Doyle in the stage adaptation of For Coloured Girls. Soon afterwards, she played Sade Banjo in MTV’s Shuga (Season 3).
In 2012, after she had returned to Nigeria, she signed with Mavin Records. In the same year, she made an appearance on the Label’s compilation album, Solar Plexus.

Personal Life
On the 23rd of November 2013, Tiwa Savage and her then manager, Tee Billz had their traditional marriage at The Ark in Lekki. And on the 26th of April, they had their white wedding at the Armani Hotel in Dubai. The couple gave birth to a son, Jamil Balogun in 2015.
Unfortunately, the marriage didn’t last as the couple parted ways in 2018. In 2021, Tiwa Savage lost her father after he had battled an illness for years.
