Tim Paine is an Australian international cricketer who is the captain of the Australian national test cricket team. Prior to his selection for Australia in the 2017-18 Ashes series, he captained the Hobart Hurricanes. In Australian domestic cricket, the right-handed batsman and a wicketkeeper play for the Tasmanian Tigers.

He was born on December 8, 1984 as Timothy David Paine in Hobart, Tasmania, Australia. He was born as one of the fifth children to his father John Paine and his unidentified mother. He is one of four siblings named Nick who also plays in the Tasmanian Football League with Clarence Football Club. He is also linked to AFL player and manager Robert Shaw.
