Q What do you think of Katherine Kelly Lang [Brooke] and how do you feel about acting with her?
To Kelly is wonderful. Not only is she a lovely woman, but you can always count on her. When she arrives on set, she’s a consummate professional and you always know what you’re going to get. She is still there, 100%.
Q Do you have artistic abilities like your character, Ridge?
The answer to that should be, “Tell me.” However, if it means “do I draw?”, yes, I like to draw. I make cartoons with children. Sometimes we communicate in the characters we draw. Thank you for this question.
Q Was it easy to step into the role after [ex-Ridge’s] departure from Ronn Moss? I love you as Ridge, but do you have issues with other fans
accepting the “new” Ridge?
To That’s very kind of you to say. I think it was a good thing Brad [Bell, executive producer] let some time pass before Ronn left and I started. If you look at us, it’s pretty obvious that they wanted to go in a different direction. It’s not my job to repeat something; it’s my job to create something new, and that’s what I try to do every day. Whether I succeed or not is up to you. As far as the fans go, everyone has been really wonderful.
Q When were you married to Susan Haskell? I loved you both as Patrick and Marty in ONE LIFE TO LIVE.
To Well, it’s funny you ask that question because people always call her my “life partner”, but Susan is my wife. We were actually married. I’m no churchman, but we did something on the beach a while ago. I don’t talk about it because I’m just a private man.
Q Since you commute from your home on the east coast to the B&B on the west coast, what do you like to do on the plane to pass the time?
To drink? No just kidding. If I’m not writing, I like watching AMERICAN PICKERS. It’s one of my favorite shows. They think it’s really cool and I like those guys. It’s also quite fun, as we usually fly over where they choose.
Q First off, I want to thank Thorsten for being such an amazing Ridge and bringing so much “Bridge” magic with Katherine Kelly Lang. I’m a day one viewer and have always been a fan of ‘Bridge’, but ever since Thorsten took over, ‘Bridge’ is better than ever. His chemistry with Kelly is off the charts! My question is about this amazing phrase at the end of the “Bridge” wedding: “As it is now, so it will remain.” Was it written or was it just whispering in Kelly’s ear to you?
To Wow, thank you very much. No, I’m not ad-lib in pentameter. It’s funny because when I read it, I was like, “We’re not doing Spartacus!” But I think it turned out well, and it certainly reminded us to have more faith in what we were given because I’ve heard many times since then that people really liked that line. But no, I didn’t suggest that at all.
Q Hi, Thorsten. I enjoyed your work on all of your soaps, but I especially loved you as Zach Slater on ALL MY CHILDREN. Do you have a favorite moment since working with [ex-Kendall] Alicia Minshew and creating magic with the “Zendall” couple? They are my favorite soap couple of all time, even to this day!
At It’s Funny, you really have no intention of creating anything. You’ve decided not to step on anyone’s toes and go out at 4 p.m.! The “Zendall” thing kind of happened. I have to tell you that I love Alicia. I think the two people worked well together and because of that both characters created something. I miss her. I can’t tell you any favorite moments. I just miss it all. I miss spending time with her. But, she’s married to my best friend [Richie Herschenfeld, who married the actress in 2008], so I still see her. I tell her that I introduced her to my best friend just so I could keep her in my life.
