“This Feels Like a Kidnap!” — Peter Obi Breaks Silence on VeryDarkMan’s Arrest, Warns of Dangerous Trend in Nigeria

Reacting to the viral drama surrounding VDM’s controversial arrest, Peter Obi on Sunday called out the authorities for what he described as a “disturbing method” that resembled an outright abduction. According to him, this kind of approach spreads fear and opens the door for criminal impersonators.

“When citizens can’t tell the difference between a lawful arrest and a street-side kidnapping, then we’ve crossed into dangerous territory,” Obi warned.

Obi didn’t stop there. He reminded Nigerians that even respected judges had once been dragged from their homes in similar fashion — and if judges aren’t safe, what chance do ordinary Nigerians stand?

He also called out the fallout hitting Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank), which was allegedly linked to VDM’s arrest. The backlash, he noted, is damaging to Nigeria’s economy and scaring off investors already on edge.

“At a time when our image is fragile, was it too much to simply invite VDM for questioning in a civil, legal manner?” Obi asked.

But it wasn’t just about VDM. Obi also raised alarm over a separate report of a NANS President allegedly being abducted, warning that Nigeria’s young people are slowly being silenced or co-opted into political games.

“The youth must never be bullied into silence — not by fear, not by favour. We must protect their right to speak and lead,” he said.

He ended his statement with a strong call: “Let’s return to a Nigeria where justice is real, arrests are lawful, and institutions act with dignity. That’s the country we need to build — not one that plays hide-and-seek with the truth.”
