- At the age of 7 he joined Racing Genk and started playing as a goalkeeper.
- Thibaut won the Belgian Pro League with Genk in the 2010-2011 season.
- In July 2011, Thibaut signed a five-year deal with English club Chelsea for a total of €9 million.
- After moving to Chelsea, he was loaned out to Spanish club Atlético Madrid.
- He won the Copa del Rey trophy with Atlético Madrid in 2013. In the final, he was named man of the match after his side beat Real Madrid 2-1.
- His loan to Atlético Madrid was extended for another 12 months before the start of the 2013-2014 season.
