The Notorious BIG was an American rapper who is considered by many to be one of the greatest rappers of all time. Although The Notorious BIG found a special place in the hip hop world. His status as a legend of the genre is defined not only by his deep tone and ability to quickly rhyme multiple rhymes, but also by the tragic circumstances that cut short his life and career. Many rappers who came after him from New York, like Jay-Z, considered him an inspiration.

- Jan Jackson (1988-1993) – Biggie started dating Jan Jackson in 1988 while he was still a student in high school. His relationship with Jackson was arguably one of the longest relationships he has had in his entire life. In August 1993, she gave birth to their daughter T’yanna. However, they had separated by the time their daughter was born. Despite their split, Biggie continued to support T’yanna. He even traded drugs to keep her financially secure.
- Wendy Williams – In March 2013, Lil Kim claimed that Wendy Williams had an affair with Biggie in the ’90s. She even revealed that he dumped her after a short while.
- Lil’ Kim (1993-1997) – Biggie first met singer-rapper Lil’ Kim in 1993 during a rap battle in Brooklyn. A few days later he asked her to rap a few lines for him. Soon after, they began dating. When they left, Biggie was still with his baby’s mother, but decided to leave her for Kim. Although he had several affairs, she did not break up with him as she needed a strong male presence in her life. They were still in the relationship when he was killed in March 1997.
- Faith Evans (1994-1997) – Biggie and singer Faith Evans met during a photo shoot for Bad Boy Records. After dating for a short time, they married in August 1994. In October 1996, she gave birth to their son Christopher Wallace Jr. However, their marriage was not a happy one as he continued to have affairs. It has also been alleged that she responded to Biggie’s infidelity by hooking up with Tupac Shakur, who was Biggie’s sworn enemy. Tupac even gushed about sleeping with Evans. Biggie and Evans officially ended their relationship in the early months of 1997.
- Charli Baltimore (1996-1997) – Biggie reportedly started dating rapper-songwriter Charli Baltimore in late 1996. The Commission was a hip-hop group formed by Biggie and whose members included Charli Baltimore, Lil’ Cease, Jay -Z and Sean Combs counted. They were still seeing each other when he was shot dead in March 1997.

- When he was 2 years old, his father left his family leaving his mother with all responsibility for raising Biggie. She had to work two jobs to survive the financial strain.
- He started dealing drugs when he was 12 years old. His mother was busy with her jobs and knew nothing about her son’s drug dealings until he grew up.
- As a teenager, he performed as a rapper. He has performed with local New York groups such as The Techniques and Old Gold Brothers.
- In 1989 he was arrested by the police on gun charges. He was then sentenced to 5 years probation. However, the following year he was arrested for violating his probation.
- In 1991 he was arrested again. This time he was caught in North Carolina for dealing crack cocaine. He served 9 months in prison before being released on bail.
- After getting out of prison, he made his demo tape and decided to adopt “Biggie Smalls” as his stage name. The name was inspired by a character in the film Let’s Do It Again . It was also a nod to his huge body.
- His early work was noticed by The Source and they decided to include him in their Unsigned Hype column, which helped him garner even more attention in the hip-hop scene.
- Eventually, his demo tape was recorded by producer Sean Combs, who also served as Uptown Records’ A&R. Combs decided to set up a meeting with Biggie, which resulted in him signing a record deal with the music label.
- Shortly after Biggie signed on to Uptown, the record label decided to fire Combs, who then decided to start his new record label, Bad Boy Records. By mid-1992, Combs had managed to lure Biggie to his record label.
- Despite signing a record deal, he continued dealing drugs to meet his financial needs, which only increased after the birth of his daughter. Eventually Combs found out about it and forced Biggie to give it up.
- In late 1993 he began working on the Mary J. Blige remix Wahre Liebe under the alias The Notorious BIG , arguably the first major recording under his new stage name.

- In March 1996, he was arrested outside of a Manhattan nightclub for threatening to kill two autograph seekers. He chased them before smashing their cab’s windows and then pulling one of them out and attacking them.
- Eventually, he pleaded guilty to second-degree harassment. He was ordered by the judge to do 100 hours of community service.
- In the summer of 1996, he was arrested from his home in Teaneck, New Jersey, on allegations of gun and drug possession.
- After Shakur’s death in September 1996 in a Las Vegas car shoot, the media claimed that Smalls was involved in the attack. Some reports even claimed he paid for the gun that fired Shakur’s shots.
- His family and representatives have vehemently denied any involvement in Shakur’s murder. They even released some documents to prove he was in New Jersey and New York at the time of the murder. Some leading publications, including The New York Times , claimed the documents were inconclusive.
- In 1997 he was involved in an accident while traveling in a rental car. The accident crushed his left leg and forced him to spend months in the hospital. It also forced him to use a wheelchair temporarily and required him to use a cane to walk after his discharge from hospital.
- That same year he was arrested along with Lil. Quit smoking marijuana in public places. His car was also taken back by the authorities. Precisely for this reason he had to rent a rental car, which was involved in an accident.
- In January 1997, he was ordered to pay $41,000 in court damages for his involvement in an incident involving a friend of a concert promoter. The applicant had alleged that Notorious and his entourage attacked him in May 1995.
- In 2011, the FBI announced that he had a Georgia driver’s license, an asthma inhaler, 0.91 grams of marijuana, a pen and three condoms in his pocket on the night of his murder.
