At the age of 84 he died of lung cancer in his native New York EL Doctorow, a prestigious writer whose work was brought to the screen up to 6 times, by such prestigious directors as Milos Forman.

EL Doctorow, of Jewish descent, was born and died in the New York Big Apple. His literary work includes numerous short stories and a dozen novels. Several of the latter were successfully made into movies, most notably the musical Ragtime , directed by Milos Forman and starring James Cagney . But he also focused his attention on history by telling a story about the consequences of the Cold War and inspired by the Rosenbergs, who sold nuclear secrets to the Soviet Union, and which was brought to the screen by Sidney Lumet in Daniel , with Timothy Hutton . in the cast.

In addition, the gangster story Billy Bathgate , with Dustin Hoffman and Nicole Kidman , was adapted to the screen . While the western A Bullet for the Devil also adapted one of his writings.

Although the themes he deals with in his work are relatively popular, his writing is dense and the psychological description of the characters and their imbrication in the historical context stand out.
