According to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), the cost of a few food items rose in September. The NBS Selected Food Prices Watch Report for September 2022, which was released on Friday in Abuja, confirms this.

According to the research, the average price of 1 kg of tomatoes grew annually by 30.06%, from N342.25 in September 2021 to N445.12 in September 2022.

“While on a month-on-month basis, 1kg of tomato increased to N445.12 in September 2022 from N430.93 recorded in August 2022, indicating a 3.29 percent increase.”

According to the research, the cost of a kilogram of locally produced rice grew on an annual basis by 14.98%, from N410.01 in September 2021 to N471.42 in September 2022.

“On a month-on-month basis, the average price of this item increased by 3.82 percent in September 2022.”

On an annual basis, the average price of 1 kg of beans grew by 13.14%, from N492.13 in September 2021 to N556.81 in September 2022.

The report also found that from N545.61 in August 2022, 1 kg of brown beans climbed by 2.05 per cent month over month. According to the report, the average cost of 1 kg of boneless beef jumped by 24.39% from N1,768.14 in September 2021 to N2,199.37 in September 2022.

Additionally, the report stated that the average price of one bottle of palm oil grew by 30.70%, from N709.50 in September 2021 to N927.34 in September 2022.

” It also grew by 3.42 percent on a month-on-month basis.”

According to the statistics, the average price of vegetable oil (1 bottle) was N1,075.89 in September 2022, up 32.35 per cent from N812.94 in the same month the previous year

“On a month-on-month basis, it rose by 2.52 percent from N1049.49 in August 2022.”

The highest average price of rice

According to the report, Jigawa had the lowest average price of locally produced rice at N371, while Rivers had the highest average price, which was N621.61.

Also, Ebonyi recorded the highest average price for beans at N857.02 while Benue reported the lowest price at N368.21.

According to the report, Benue had the lowest price for a bottle of vegetable oil, at N643.64, while Abia had the highest price, N1,464.44 per bottle.

The South-South and South-East had higher average tomato prices, at N711.32 and N643.25, respectively, while the North-East had the lowest price, at N209.22, according to the report’s analysis by zone.

The report also states that the South-South had the highest average price for 1 kg of local rice at N519.22, followed by the South-West with N514.37, and the North-West with N417.00.

According to the report, the South-East had the highest average price for loose, brown beans at N789.74, followed by the South-South at N673.16, and the North-East had the lowest average price at N397.04.
