Biography
Temilade Openiyi, known as Tems was born in Lagos State on 11 June 1995 to a British-Nigerian father and a Nigerian mother. Shortly after her birth, the whole family relocated to the United States and her parents divorced five years later.
She relocated with her mother and brother after the divorce after which she attended Dowen College. She proceeded to her tertiary institution at Monash South Africa where she studied Economics.
As a child, Tems only listen to Christmas music but in her teenage years she fell in love with hip hop music and R&B. According to her, she stopped listening to all this music at the age of 15 so she will search for her own identity.
In 2018, Tems quit her job to pursue a career in music and began to learn self-production skills on YouTube. On 18 July 2018, she released her debut single, “Mr Rebel”, a song that she produced by herself.

Career Success
However, she released her second single “Try Me” as a follow-up to “Mr Rebel” released in 2018. On 23 April 2020, she was featured alongside fellow Nigerian singer Davido in a single “Know Your Worth”.
A single titled “Damages” from an album she released in 2020 were number 1 on Nigerian Apple Music and number 6 on the TurnTable Top 50 chart garnering 5 million views on YouTube.
Drake, a Canadian rapper, and singer were featured by Tems on a song titled “Fountains” from Drake’s sixth studio album Certified Lover Boy which debuted at number 26 on the Hot 100.
Her second extended play of If Orange Was a Place was produced in 2021. It was primarily produced by GuiltyBeatz, and the single “Crazy Tings” was released five days before and peaked at number three on the UK Afrobeats Singles Chart.
Apple Music launched the Leading Vibe Radio Show with Tems on 31 March 2022. Its first episode features “Appearance” from Muyiwa Awoniyi.
On 2 April 2022, Tems was featured alongside Drake on American rapper Future’s single “Wait For U”
