Tay-K is an American rapper and songwriter best known for his single The Race , released in 2017, which debuted in the US on the Billboard Hot 100 chart at number 70, peaked at number 44 and then became by the RIAA on January 19, 2018. Because he was incarcerated for murder at the time, his official SoundCloud account released a new song, Nach Dir , on January 20, 2018, which did not chart. He started his career as part of a rap group Daytona Boyz with 2 other artists – Santana Sage and PimpyZ. In 2015, Tay-K released his first solo song titled BIFF XANNENon his SoundCloud, but it went unnoticed except on location, in Arlington, Texas.

The 2nd solo song was titled Smart Cooper , followed closely by Megaman, another song released on his SoundCloud on March 16, 2016, accompanied by several others. None of his songs garnered attention until his 2017 manhunt and eventual arrest for murder launched a global hashtag campaign #FREETAYK. As a result of the campaign, while still in prison, Tay-K signed a record deal with a Classic 88 recording label, an imprint under RCA and the split from Sony Music. Tay-K released his debut mixtape titled Santana Worldon July 29, 2017 and re-released on December 14, 2017 to record a new version of the single The Race , featuring Young Nudy and 21 Savage on vocals.

1. His father was a member of the Insane Crip Gang , a street gang from Long Beach, California, United States. He was in prison for most of his childhood and moved the entire family to Arlington, Texas after his release.
2. WorldStarHipHop , a well-known hip hop video blog, released his song Coolio in September 2017, but Tay’s Manager was quick to post an update on Tay’s official Twitter account, saying that it was a leaked version and the original would be coming later.

He witnessed the murder of Sara Mutschlechner by fellow Daytona Boyz member, Santana Sage or Erick Johnson. Erick gave chase to Sara in the SUV Tay-K was also in while she was trying to escape in her limousine, eventually catching up and shooting her dead. He confessed and received a sentence of 44 years without parole, while Tay was cleared of charges.
8. Tay-K’s next trouble with the law came in 2016 when he was charged with the murder of Ethan Walker. He, along with Megan Holt and Ariana Bharrat, wanted to rob Ethan and sneak into his home, but while they escaped, Ethan got into a fight and was shot.

As a result of the murder charges for EthanWalker was sentenced to house arrest, but as a rebel he cut off his anklet and ran from the law. While in hiding in New Jersey, he wrote, recorded and filmed the music video for The Race in 2017. Later that year, U.S. Marshal Service captured him in Elizabeth, New Jersey.
10. While fleeing, he also attacked a 65-year-old, knocking him unconscious. The victim later recognized him in a photo lineup that only compounded the charges against Tay-K.
11. Another charge was filed in prison – the murder of Mark Anthony Saldivar in 2017, which also happened when Tay-K was on the run from the police. Tay was once again inside a black SUV with several people inside and would be treated as an accomplice. However, his bail was later reduced from $500,000 to $0 because an accomplice confessed to murder.
12. In 2018, while still incarcerated, Tay-K became a featured artist on a song Heavy , alongside rapper BlocBoy JB. It peaked at 14 on the Billboard Bubbling Under Hot 100 chart.
