Tatiana Maslany was born on September 22, 1985, in Regina, Saskatchewan. Her father, Daniel Maslany was a woodworker, while her mother, Renate was a French-English translator and interpreter. She also has two younger brothers, Daniel Joseph (who is also an actor), and Michael Maslany who is an animator. Tatiana Maslany has German, Polish, Austrian, Romanian, and Ukrainian ancestry — Her grandparents spoke German around her when she was still a child and she also speaks Spanish (not fluently though).

She had her elementary school in French immersion and her mother taught her in German before she finally learnt English. When she was 4, she danced, and when she was 9, she started community theatre and musicals. Tatiana Maslany attended Dr Martin LeBoldus High School, there, she took part in school productions and improvisation, and she graduated in 2003. She discovered lucrative acting jobs while still in high school, which allowed her to travel across Canada with the agreement of her parents.
