Taiwo Awoniyi was born on August 12, 1997, in Ilorin, Kwara State, Nigeria. He grew up under the tutelage of his parents who wanted him to take up another career asides football. Awoniyi had his primary and secondary education in Ilorin. He attended Government Day Secondary School, Airport, Ilorin from where he graduated in 2010.
Awoniyi developed an interest in football and decided to follow his passion by attending a soccer academy. After much disagreement with his parents, they eventually allowed him to attend the Imperial Soccer Academy, Ogun State, from which he graduated in 2012. Since then, his football career began in Nigeria before moving on to the international space.
Career
Awoniyi’s career began way before he enrolled at the Imperial Soccer Academy. In 2010, he was voted the Most Valuable Player at a Coca-Cola football competition in London. Ace Nigerian footballer, Seyi Olofinjna spotted his performance at the competition and invited him to join the soccer academy.
On August 31, 2015, Awoniyi was signed to the English football club, Liverpool for about £400,000 but was soon loaned to the German team, FSV Frankfurt. At FSV, he made his debut as a substitute in a match against Hertha Berlin. After several league matches where he played as a substitute, Awoniyi suffered relegation from the club before returning to Liverpool at the end of the season.
