Real Sociedad have emerged champions of the 2026 Copa del Rey after edging Atlético Madrid 4-3 on penalties following a dramatic 2-2 draw after extra time in Seville on Saturday night.

How the final unfolded

The game exploded into life almost immediately as Ander Barrenetxea fired Sociedad ahead in the opening minute.

Atlético responded in the 18th minute through Ademola Lookman, who finished clinically to restore parity. Just before halftime, Mikel Oyarzabal converted from the penalty spot to hand Sociedad a 2-1 lead going into the break.
