  • Cute Abiola Apologises to Patience Jonathan Over Past Chibok Mockery

Nigerian skitmaker, Cute Abiola, has issued a public apology to former First Lady Patience Jonathan over past jokes and comedy content that mocked her reaction to the 2014 Chibok schoolgirls’ abduction.

Patience Jonathan had come under heavy public ridicule at the time over her emotional televised plea and grammatical expressions while appealing for the rescue of the abducted schoolgirls during the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan.

Despite the seriousness of her appeal, her comments were widely turned into comedy material and internet jokes for years.

    Apology Amid Renewed Insecurity Concerns

The apology comes in the wake of recent mass abductions of pupils and teachers in Oyo State, which has reignited national conversations around insecurity and the treatment of victims and their families.

Cute Abiola, in a post shared on his Instagram page, expressed regret over how Nigerians collectively mocked the former First Lady, noting that her emotional outburst was driven by the pain of national tragedy.

His apology message read in part:

“MUMMY! I just want to say we are sorry.

Years ago, when you cried on national television over the pain, bloodshed, and kidnapping of innocent children…

Today, as kidnapping and insecurity continue to affect innocent Nigerians, many now realize that your tears were not weakness, they were humanity.

We are sorry for the ridicule…”

He added that her response at the time reflected genuine concern for victims and their families, urging Nigerians to show more empathy in moments of national crisis.

    Wider Public Reflection

The apology has since triggered mixed reactions online, with some praising the gesture as maturity and reflection, while others argue it highlights a deeper pattern of how public figures are treated during moments of national distress.
