By 2001, sales exceeded 500 retail locations in Japan. Uniqlo expanded globally, reaching the United States, Hong Kong, and South Korea by 2005.
In 2007, global sales hit $10 billion, ranking Uniqlo among the top five global retailers. As of 2023, Uniqlo operates 3,747 locations worldwide. Yanai also served on the board of Softbank for 18 years before retiring in 2019.
