TJ Holmes is an American journalist and national television personality known for hosting shows like Saturday & Sunday Morning on CNN and Don’t Sleep on BET. He has also appeared on MSNBC.
Early age and education
The talented journalist was born on August 19, 1977 in Arkansas and is the youngest of two brothers. His family members gave him the nickname T.Jr. When he began his professional television career, he started it under the name TJ
Holmes attended West Memphis High School and later joined the University of Arkansas where he earned a degree in broadcast journalism.
Race
The reassuring journalist began his television career at KSNF channel 16 in Missouri and drove to Joplin from the University of Arkansas campus to hand-deliver his resume and film. He couldn’t spend any more time on KSNF and spent less than a year on KSNF as a producer and weekend host.
He then returned to his home state of Arkansas to join CBS affiliate KTHV in Little Rock as a general assignment reporter and there was promoted to weekend anchor within a year. In 2003, he moved to KNTV at NBC O&O in the San Francisco Bay Area to be an anchor for the 5 pm news.
Holmes also traveled to Athens, Greece to cover the 2004 Olympics, one of the first summer games held after the 11th Attacks . He also covered several other stories that garnered national attention, including California’s historic recall election, Governor Gray Davis, which resulted in the double murder trial of Scott Peterson.
He then joined CNN as a news anchor and CNN Saturday & Sunday Morning correspondent and co-anchor with Betty Nguyen until Nguyen left for CBS. He also covered the historic first papal visit to the United States, including the live mass at Yankee Stadium. He helped CNN’s 2010 coverage of the Deepwater Horizon oil spill.
TJ also joined BET and signed a multi-platform deal with BET Networks. She has also appeared on MSNBC numerous times as a fill-in anchor and has also appeared on weekends with Alex Witt and Newsnation with Tamron Hall.
He recently appeared on ABC News and was named WNN’s permanent co-host.
Personal life
The capable journalist married Amy Ferson, but the relationship did not last long and they divorced in 2007. He then again married Atlanta-area attorney Marilee Fiebig on March 1, 2010, in Tennessee. They have their first daughter together in 2013. Apart from that daughter, he also has two other children from his first wife named Brianna and Jaiden.
