Sylvia Kristel, known for starring in the erotic film “Emmanuelle”, from 1974 – she gave little more to her career – has died as a result of cancer and a stroke. The Dutch actress was 60 years old, and she had been admitted to an Amsterdam hospital since July.

Sylvia Kristel was born on September 28, 1952 in Utretch. She, the daughter of the owners of a hotel establishment, according to her autobiography, suffered sexual abuse at the age of 9, a tragic episode that she did not want to remember. To add insult to injury, when she was 14 her father left home to go with another woman. “It was the saddest thing that ever happened to me,” she recalled.

At the age of 17, she became a model, and was elected Miss TV Europe. At 21 she agreed to play a role in a Dutch film, Frank in Eva , her film debut. Soon after she was chosen for her undeniable youthful beauty by the Frenchman Just Jaeckin to star in Emmanuelle , scandalous at the time for her explicit sex sequences. In the midst of the counterculture, she drew her attention to the gross eroticism of her artistic aspirations, and Sylvia Kristel became famous throughout the world. She embodied the title character of her, a model married to a diplomat eager to “explore her sexuality” with whomever she came within range. She would shoot two sequels Emmanuelle 2: The Anti -Virgin and Goodbye, Emmanuelle .

He also occasionally played a secondary character in the catastrophic Airport 79: Concorde , the second-rate Italian comedy Camas calientes and The crazy agent 86 , translation of the adventures of the television character to the cinema.

Her greatest achievement was starring in Alice or the Last Fugue , by Claude Chabrol , where she played a bourgeois woman locked up by an aristocrat after leaving her husband. However, it is one of the most disconnected films of the masterful director. Soon after she starred in René la canne , opposite Gérard Depardieu .

He had no luck in his sentimental life. She had a relationship with Hugo Claus, a Belgian author 27 years her senior, with whom she had a son in 1975. Later she was joined to actor Ian McShane , 10 years her senior, whom she met while filming The Fifth Musketeer . She moved with him to Los Angeles to try to jumpstart her Hollywood career, which she never got. She later married Alan Turner, in 1982 but divorced immediately, to join the director Philippe Blot.

Sylvia Kristel suffered from problems with alcohol and heroin. She ended up playing her best-known character, the aging Emmanuelle, in a series of telefilms. She converted into a painter, she also gained some notoriety when she published “Nude”, her autobiography.
