Sydney Chaplin, one of the eldest sons of the great Charles Chaplin, decided to follow in his father’s footsteps as an actor. He began accompanying him in one of his films, and later obtained a prominent role in the theater. He decided to concentrate on the stage, and hardly intervened in the cinema, in second-rate by-products. He also played many supporting roles in television series. The actor died on March 3, 2009 at his residence in Rancho Mirage, in the California desert, as a result of a heart attack.

Born on March 31, 1926, in Los Angeles (California), Sydney Earle Chaplin was the second son of the famous comedian with Lita Grey, his second wife. He is the brother of fellow actor Charles Chaplin , Jr. and the half-brother of actress Geraldine Chaplin . His childhood was not very happy, according to his own statements, because his parents divorced him when he was one year old, and he barely got to know his father in depth as a child, because he only saw him on rare occasions.

After fighting in World War II, Chaplin decided to pursue acting, and achieved some success on stage after founding his own theater company. In the cinema he made his debut under the orders of his father, in a secondary role in Candilejas , where he was the composer who won the heart of the protagonist. Apparently, Chaplin had his son in mind when he wrote the character. His father also gave him his most prominent role on the big screen, in the last film he directed, The Countess from Hong Kong , where he played Harvey, adviser to Marlon Brando , a diplomat who falls in love with a Russian countess during a boat trip. run-down ( Sophia Loren ), who travels as a stowaway.

From then on, the young Chaplin concentrated on the theater, winning a Tony Award for ‘Bells Are Ringing’. Another of his most remembered roles was the stage version of ‘Funny Girl’, along with Barbra Streisand , which earned him another Tony nomination, although in the movies his role was played by Omar Sharif . In cinema, his supporting role in Land of the Pharaohs and The Clan of the Sicilians , shot in France, with Jean Gabin , Alain Delon and Lino Ventura , stand out . In the late 1980s, he opened a restaurant in Palm Springs, California, which had some success.
