Susana Canales
During the postwar period he became a celebrity for titles like “Black Sky.” Susana Canales, she passed away on March 22, 2021, at the age of 87, in Madrid.
Also born in the capital of Spain, on September 5, 1933, Susana Canales Niaucel –her full name– was the daughter of Valladolid actor Ricardo Canales . She went into exile with her family in Venezuela at the beginning of the Spanish Civil War. From there she would move to Argentina, where at the age of 9 she made her film debut with Concierto de almas , directed by Alberto de Zavalía.
In 1953, she returned to Spain, where she married the actor Julio Peña. After participating in several plays, Susana Canales succeeded in the cinema, with feature films such as Blood in Castilla , Así es Madrid and above all Cielo negro , by Manuel Mur Oti , where she would appear in the most famous tracking shot of Spanish cinema, when her character , Emilia, tries to commit suicide on the Bailén street viaduct, sadly famous for the large number of people who have taken their lives there. For this work she received the medal of the Círculo de Escritores Cinematográficos (CEC) for best actress.
Away from the cinema since the early 1960s, Susana Canales focused her career on theater and television from then on. On the tables she premiered among others “La bella Dorotea” (1963), and she appeared in numerous classics. On television, she participated in titles such as the famous Estudio 1 and La huella del crimen: The case of the poisoned women of Valencia .
