Marion Hugh Knight Jr. aka “ Suge Knight ” (born April 19, 1965) is an American record producer, music executive, former football player, and criminal from Compton, California. He is also famous for being the Founder of Death Row Records . Under this label, he has recorded several famous music albums with various rappers and singers.
His record company rose to fame after producing the debut album of rapper Dr. Dre ‘s music called “The Chronicle”. This album was recorded in June 1991 and released on December 15, 1991. Also, Dr. Dre’s The Chronic was number one on the rap charts at the time.
After this he has several successful years and also worked with famous musicians like Tupac Shakur , Tha Dogg Pound, Snoop Dogg and Outlawz.
In September 1996, he was sentenced to prison on multiple counts of rape related to the murder case . As a result, Death Row Records has declared bankrupt in 2006.
The 53-year-old music producer has also been charged with killing a man at a hamburger stand in Compton, Los Angeles County. He ran over two people with his truck in January 2015. Therefore, the California court judges sentenced him to 28 years in prison.
