Sue Simmons was born on May 27, 1942 in New York City, New York to father John Simmons, a jazz bassist, and his wife. She enrolled in Julia Richman High School, graduating from there in 1961.

Sue Simmons started out as a consumer action reporter at WTNH-TV, after which she worked at WBAL-TV from 1974 to 1976. She served as a reporter and anchor for WRC-TV from 1976 to 1980.
Sue Simmons was the co-host of WNBC’s hit show Live at Five from 1980 to 2007. She was the host of Chuck Scarborough and they were called Chuck and Sue. They have been together since Simmon’s arrival at WNBC and have been known for being part of the longest run for an anchor team in New York City television history.
Sue Simmons’ contract with WNBC ended on March 7, 2012, but the channel announced that it would not renew the contract with her. She received sendoffs from a host of celebrities and her co-actors and was replaced by Shiba Russell.
