The highly anticipated meeting between the Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has been postponed to Wednesday, August 28.
Initially set for today, Monday, the meeting’s postponement was confirmed by ASUU President, Emmanuel Osodeke.
According to Osodeke, “the meeting previously announced by the Minister of Education on Friday will no longer take place”. No reason was given for the delay.
The meeting aims to address pressing issues that have led to the ongoing strike.
ASUU has been pressing for an emergency revitalization fund for public universities, payment of outstanding earned academic allowances, and the release of withheld salaries, promotion arrears, and third-party deductions.
Other critical issues to be discussed include stopping illegal recruitment, the proliferation of public universities, and the abuse of laws and regulations.
Additionally, ASUU seeks the removal of universities from the treasury single account.
Recall that ASUU issued a strike notice last Tuesday, following a National Executive Committee meeting at the University of Ibadan.
The union seeks an urgent resolution to these issues, which have hindered academic activities nationwide.
